Overview

Just over a week after American University celebrated the 120th anniversary of the founding of their Washington College of Law, they held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of their new 8.5-acre Tenley campus, firmly establishing the University’s commitment to education and the future of the College of Law for the next century.

Featuring more than 37,000 square feet of teaching space, as well as a 5,400 square foot outdoor courtyard, the campus was planned with a student-centered approach and a philosophy of mutual respect and collaboration. Designed by SmithGroupJJR, the Tenley Campus integrates faculty with students and promotes open communication.

VT Contribution

Partnering with Architectural Products of Virginia, VT manufactured just under 500 openings for several of the buildings on the new campus. “The job featured paint grade and metal doors, but it was wood doors that brought character and spirit to the spaces,” notes Brian Mays, Project Manager at Architectural Products of Virginia. All the wood doors for the project were clad in eye-catching quarter sliced walnut veneers that were enhanced with a custom factory finish.
